Dr. Angelos Tyrlis is a Consultant Cardiologist with special interest in Interventional Cardiology. He specializes in catheter-based, minimally invasive procedures for the treatment of coronary artery disease and structural heart disorders.
Dr. Tyrlis grew up in Geliniatika Korinthias, Greece and earned his medical degree from Athens Medical School. He undertook his core cardiology specialty training in Greece, Cyprus and the United Kingdom and pursued further subspecialty training by undertaking a two-year advanced fellowship in Interventional Cardiology in the world-renowned St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, Barts Heart Centre in London, UK (2021-2023).
During his training he performed a plethora of procedures including percutaneous treatment of stable coronary artery disease, acute coronary syndromes, percutaneous treatment of structural heart defects and percutaneous treatment of valvular heart disease. He has also been involved in teaching medical students and trainees at Barts Heart Centre and served as instructor in international conferences. Furthermore, he participated in various research projects with publications in high impact peer-reviewed journals and has served as reviewer for journals including Journal of American College of Cardiology (JACC). Finally, he was awarded with the Certificate in Core Cardiology in 2021 by the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and the Certification in Interventional Cardiology in 2023 by the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Intervention (EAPCI).
Dr. Tyrlis manages routine and complex cases of ischaemic heart disease requiring percutaneous treatment and angioplasty with calcium modification techniques such as rotational atherectomy and intravascular lithotripsy along with the use of IVUS and OCT. He also performs routine right and left heart catheterisation, pressure wire studies and microvascular assessment, percutaneous treatment of structural heart defects such as PFO and ASD closure.
Dr. Tyrlis an active member of the European Society of Cardiology, the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Intervention, and the Cyprus Society of Cardiology. He currently holds an honorary contract with St. Bartholomew’s Hospital staying at the forefront of advancements in the field and engaging with fellow experts, fostering a collaborative and supportive network. He aspires to provide world-class, top-quality care for patients with coronary artery disease and structural heart disorders, by using cutting-edge technology and providing the latest and most advanced procedural therapies.
