Dr Avraamides trained in medicine and cardiology in the UK. He graduated from University College London with MBBS and BSc(Hons) Physiology.
Dr Avraamides is former Director of the Cardiology Department and former Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Nicosia General Hospital. He has huge experience in all cardiac interventions, having performed tens of thousands of cardiac catheterisations/coronary angiography/angioplasties/stenting/TAVI/mitral and tricuspid valve repairs and thousands of pacemaker/ICD/device implantations, atrial fibrillation ablation, electrophysiological studies. He has pioneered many such interventions, having been the first to perform them in Cyprus.
Amongst many firsts, Dr Avraamides was the first cardiologist in Cyprus to introduce and perform AF ablation with the latest revolutionary technology of Pulsed Field Ablation. He was also the first to introduce and perform the implantation of leadless pacemakers, a new technological revolution in cardiac pacing.
Dr Avraamides is President of the Cyprus Working Group on Cardiac Arrhythmias, Pacing and Electrophysiology, past President of the Cyprus Working Group on Interventional Cardiology and past President of the Cyprus Society of Cardiology.
Dr Avraamides has been elected to the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of London (FRCP Lon) and to the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (FRCP Edin). He has also been honoured by election to the Fellowship of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC), the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (FEACVI), the American College of Cardiology (FACC), the American Heart Association (FAHA), the Society of Cardiac Angiography and Interventions (USA, FSCAI) and the Heart Rhythm Society (USA, FHRS).
